All Luca Jouel fine jewellery has been thoughtfully designed by Tereena Lucas. The pieces are characterized by quality with a strong and timeless aesthetic, where our express goal is to have happy customers long after the time of their initial purchase. While buying online continues to grow in popularity, we understand that purchasing high value items in this way can be potentially daunting. So for that reason our focus is on providing you with a personalised 'Luca Jouel experience' that is both enjoyable and easy.
Our Commitment to Ethical Trading
In acquiring the elements for our pieces, Luca Jouel is committed to the legitimate and ethical sourcing of materials and maintains a policy of dealing only with companies who demonstrate that same commitment to ethical trading. All Luca Jouel diamonds have been obtained from reputable sources in our supply chain. Our suppliers warrant that they have purchased their diamonds from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions and the World Diamond Council's System of Warranties. We welcome the positive changes being made and supported by the larger players in the diamond trade like DeBeers and CIBJO, The World Jewellery Confederation. Our hope is for increasingly stringent diamond traceability at all levels of the industry. The principle specialist manufacturers and precious metal suppliers we engage are members of the Responsible Jewellery Council and also follow sourcing procedures that are fully compliant with the LBMA Responsible Gold Guidance and OECD Due Diligence Guidance for the Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals.
Each piece of Luca Jouel fine jewellery has been custom made by our expert jewellers in Australia and Hong Kong, and our chains are custom crafted in Germany. To date we have employed a variety of handcrafted manufacturing techniques which include CAD/CAM, hand-assembly, hand-finishing and complete hand-making. The special finishes that have been applied to many of our pieces are designed to imbue a sense of the organic and timeless.
As of January 2019 we have decided to focus exclusively on hand-making our pieces. There is something truly lovely and luxurious about hand-making a beautiful piece of jewellery and we wish to uphold these age-old artisanal skills. Artisanal is defined as pertaining to or noting a high-quality or distinctive product made in small quantities, usually by hand or using traditional methods. We believe it is important to treasure such craft and also further value the intrinsic enhancement of our ethical jewellery offer that will be afforded by such endeavour.
Diamonds & Gemstones
Every stone is carefully selected by Tereena, based upon her appreciation for and extensive knowledge of coloured gemstones and diamonds. Many of our white diamonds are of F/VS colour and clarity or higher because we value the beauty of classic high quality white diamonds. We also use other lower grade diamonds in a variety of tones in some of our designs in order to achieve different effects. All other coloured diamonds from champagne, to black and more unusual hues have been chosen for their uniqueness and overall aesthetic appeal. Different types of coloured gem stones from the well known to the unusual have also been sourced from around the world. Some stones are perhaps more classically beautiful - clean and displaying all the important angles of cut and proportion; while others are decidedly asymmetrical with visible inclusions, completely veering away from traditional industry standards of beauty and value. But as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder; and beauty is not always about perfection. Luca Jouel aims to highlight and celebrate natural gem stone inclusions as is possible. Some of our diamonds and coloured stones are custom cut, while others are carefully curated as they are found. Cushions, ovals and rose cuts are favoured as they lend an old world charm to our designs.
All Luca Jouel diamonds and coloured gemstones are truly and accurately represented. A lot of gemstones in the market place have undergone some kind of physical treatment designed to enhance their colour or appearance. The most basic of which is simple heat treatment, through to more advanced processes of diffusion coating, impregnation and lasering. With the exception of black diamonds, which are mostly heat treated, we generally try to avoid purchasing stones that have undergone any kind of treatment. Luca Jouel will always provide full disclosure, to the best of our knowledge, of any treatment/s that have been applied to all diamonds and gemstones we use in our jewellery.
We use a variety of precious metals in the making of each piece of Luca Jouel fine jewellery. From 18ct yellow and rose gold, to platinum, palladium and silver, we enjoy the different qualities attributed by each and also in combining the different metals. Most of our pieces can be made in your favourite choice of metal, we are more than happy to accommodate your preferences. Our master jewellers use special alloys that have been developed in-house to ensure that each finished piece of jewellery is of the finest quality.
Considerable thought has gone into Luca Jouel packaging. We are conscious of our shared environment and have tried our best to make our packaging as earth-friendly as possible. Much trial and error has gone into this process, and we have decided to opt for handmade sustainable bamboo boxes that are not overly branded so that they can be re-purposed as keep-sake or trinket boxes.
